DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee met Sept. 15 during which it heard the news as reported by Committee member Albert DiCicco that the municipality’s bond rating was recently set at “AA”.
“We were expecting maybe an “A” rating pre-final evaluation based on doubling our budget surplus (previously reported by the Herald) so this was really a pleasant surprise and is a credit to many, many individuals as the result of hard work by not only township employees but also our residents and volunteers” said DiCicco.
Campground Seeks More Sites
Represented at the meeting by attorney (and former Dennis mayor) James Pickering, the owners of Seagrove Camp Grounds made a first request for consideration by committee to add to its current number of campsites.
Located on Route 9, Seagrove currently has 205 campsites although it is licensed for 190 sites. Per Pickering’s presentation, the campground would like to add a bit more than an additional 25 acres which would allow it to add another 126 sites to the overall number.
“The township ordinance requires one acre for each additional 5 camp sites so if Seagrove can expand as it is proposing the end total will be 316 sites” said Pickering. “This is the first time I can remember where a proposal does not need any variances. Of course the proposal will ultimately need to be approved by the township planning board for confirmation of suitable buffer footage as we have provided for and receive other state approvals such as CAFRA, well water and NJDEP as well as notify abutting residents” he continued.
DiCicco noted that for Dennis, campgrounds are a very important tax generator.
“The figure stands at almost 25 percent that of all tax revenues for the township about a quarter come in from campgrounds. They are a good business partner of Dennis,” he said.
Committee agreed to consider Seagrove’s request and include it on an upcoming meeting agenda.
Email Issues
DiCicco invited technical sub-contractor and consultant Dennis Donegan to the meeting to brief committee about spam and interconnectivity issues associated with the township’s email system.
“Each morning our clerk comes in 30 minutes early just to delete spam emails and we can make better use of her time. I also know all of us on committee would like to get our emails on our mobile devices” said DiCicco.
Donegan explained that the township’s email system and website hosting that serves the Senior Center, Public Works, Recreation and Town Hall information has not been updated for 10 years.
He explained that for an additional $85 a month on top of the Comcast contract the township currently has for $112 a month those issues will be addressed and bring “the township’s email system into the 21st century.” Committee unanimously approved the additional expense.
Brownies Honored
Committee made a presentation and proclamation honoring Brownie Troop 41032 and its leader, Roberta Nuss, for their work in beautifying the area around the township’s Historical Museum.
“We planted native specimens around the flagpole in front of the post office and by the museum through a Clean Communities grant and then we also earned $200 as a troop to augment this amount. This is a really nice on-going project for our girls and we welcome anyone who would like to come out and help us with future gardening projects,” concluded Nuss.
