DENNISVILLE – At the March 26 Dennis Township Committee meeting, Emmett Vandergrift, co-owner of Evergreen Curative LLC, a New Jersey-based medical marijuana organization, reiterated his interest in establishing a location in the township to sell medicinal marijuana. Vandergrift previously appeared seeking members’ support of his company establishing that type of facility.
Vandergrift said the organization’s goal is to establish a safe, efficient and world-class medical marijuana cultivation, processing and dispensing facility that would provide relief for patients with debilitating conditions. He explained during an August 2018 presentation to committee that having a dispensary located in the county would be a benefit to local patients who depend on medical marijuana for treatment.
According to Vandergrift, Egg Harbor is the closest dispensary for county residents and for some that drive could take 45 minutes to almost two hours. He noted that a medical marijuana facility would also benefit the township economically through job and tax creation.
In answering a question about how much traffic he would expect that activity would generate, Vandergrift replied, “In Bellmawr, a location there draws about 250 customers an hour.” Committee members seemed concerned by that volume of traffic and control of correct use. Mayor Zeth Matalucci asked Vandergrift for more information and to prepare a presentation for eventual sharing with township residents for possible approval.
