AVALON – Avalon residents kept the issue of flooding in the north end of the borough before the governing body. Comment at the June 13 council meeting focused on the recent engineering study presented by Borough Engineer Thomas Thornton.
One resident of the area urged council to plan for the worst-case scenario.
The study presented a series of possible actions regarding pump stations and drainage systems, laying out the options alongside a risk level based on 25, 50, and 100-year storm events.
Council President John McCorristin spoke about the unique land contours in the island’s north end of the island that lead many to refer to the area as “the bowl.” These contours trap water in the area. The protection offered against seas surge by the dunes also prevents any natural outlet for water trapped behind the dunes after significant rain events. Council agreed it is an important issue.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
