WEST WILDWOOD ─ West Wildwood Borough Commissioners’ meeting Nov. 6 was attended by a substantial number of residents. Though the meeting was brief, Mayor Christopher Fox and Commissioner Scott Golden conducted business in an atmosphere once described as “coming to Grandma’s house.”
An insertion from the state comprised the first resolution passed by the board. The insertion was a grant from the state Division of Criminal Justice for the purchase of body armor; another asset for the police department and the protection of borough citizens and guests.
According to Fox, 446 police calls were made in October, including house checks. An appointment was also made for a “Custodian of Records” for the West Wildwood Police Department.
Continued repairs and reconstruction for Poplar, Magnolia, and “I” avenues encompassed a significant part of the agenda.
Submission of a grant contract with the state Department of Transportation was approved and, if granted, a reconstruction project will go into effect for “R” Avenue.
The borough will also remove the handicap parking designation at 39 Venice Avenue.
According to Scott Golden, a new generator has been purchased for the borough municipal building.
“We haven’t had a generator in here for seven years,” Fox added.
Golden said that the generator has been purchased with grant funds and will cost the borough nothing. “Chris did a great job,” Fox said, thanking Administrator Chris Ridings for efforts in securing the grant. An application for outfall lines has also been filed.
Fox explained how obtaining grant money is not an easy process. “We hope for the best at the end of the day,” Fox said.
Maureen Smith, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, gave a report concerning a number of pagers purchased for the fire department with funds raised by the auxiliary.
Smith also announced a soup fundraiser and how “83 quarts of soup” have been made. Smith went on to thank the borough staff for “all that they do.” Fox responded by thanking the Ladies Auxiliary for its efforts on behalf of the fire department.
The children’s Christmas party will be held Dec. 12 and the West Wildwood tree lighting ceremony will commence Dec. 3.
The regularly scheduled meeting will serve as an overture before the event at 6 p.m. Fox wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving before adding “see you at the lighting!”
