DENNISVILLE – Dennis Township Committee met Aug. 3. All items on its consent agenda were passed unanimously. Also included was correspondence from a freeholders’ resolution (554-15) that prohibits all pedestrian passage along Sea Isle Boulevard in the wake of on-going construction along that roadway.
Purchasing Agent
Committee passed on second reading and with no public comment, an ordinance (2015-06) that creates the position of “purchasing agent” for Dennis Township. The individual shall be appointed by township committee and who is required to possess a valid “Qualified Purchasing Agent” certificate issued by the state Division of Local Government Services, Department of Community Affairs.
Per the ordinance, the purchasing agent will have the “authority, responsibility and accountability…to prepare public advertising for and receive bids and requests for proposals for the provision or performance of goods, services and construction contracts.”
“We haven’t had the benefit of this type of purchasing agent position which allows the township to raise our bid threshold when using the ‘qualified purchasing agent’ and makes it more cost-effective when we go out to bid a contract,” said Mayor John Murphy.
“We can exceed our previous bid threshold through this position and save money on what we would have needed to expend for advertising and engineers. The township’s current financial officer has the appropriate designation so we are good to go in terms of implementing the ordinance,” he concluded.
Complaint of Front Yard Auto Sales
During the public comment period, Carol Donovan, Academy Road, Ocean View, brought to the attention of committee that a neighbor is selling cars from his residence.
“The property is zoned commercial, and this individual says he is allowed to sell these vehicles, and he’s sold in the past boats and now has Jeeps on display,” stated Donovan. “I’m asking committee to look into what is allowed and please get back to me so I have the right information,” she requested. Murphy pledged that “the township will do its due diligence and verify what can and cannot be done.”
Bookmobile Weekly Stop
Committee member Lisa Salimbene announced that the Cape May County Library bookmobile will visit the township Senior Center every Wednesday from 3-3:30 p.m.
“This is really nice news, timing is great, because the bookmobile will be available each week when camper children are picked up by their parents about that time,” said Salimbene.
