CREST HAVEN – Lower Township school teacher Jacalyn Rae Matkowski received applause from Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, Will Morey, Vice Director Leonard Desiderio, and Director Gerald Thornton, Oct. 28 at freeholders’ caucus meeting for the Patriot Day song she wrote entitled “Did You Know?”
The recording was played at the county’s 13th annual observance Sept. 11. Matkowski was moved to write the song because her brother was on the next flight out of Logan International Airport after the ill-fated flight was hijacked by terrorists Sept. 11, 2001.
Her song was incorporated into a video produced by the county Department of Tourism and Information that shows county employees at various locations marking that day with flag-lowering ceremonies. [Click http://goo.gl/jeOHiH for the video/song.]
Thornton said the song evoked strong emotion for him and his brother, a retired Air Force member. Clerk of the Board Elizabeth Bozzelli said she had forwarded the song to her daughter who was a freshman in college in Manhattan Sept. 11, 2001 was on a ferry at the time of the attack.
Diane Wieland, tourism director, said the photo taken of Matkowski would be placed on a plaque and presented at a later date.
