Board OKs State Grants for Job Training

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders accepted two state grants Sept. 11, that total $1.03 million to be administered by the county Planning Department’s Division of Workforce Development to aid job training.
The larger of the two, for $787.401, will be used to fund the One-Stop Career Center in Wildwood. That entity provides training to qualified individuals seeking full-time employment.
The second, for $242,281 will be used in the Department of Social Services for job readiness and training services.
In other action the board:
* Appointed a coordinator, Tim Cwik, and deputy coordinator, Bill Cole, for the county Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (R.A.C.E.S.). Their terms span from Oct. 1, 2018 to Oct. 30, 2021.
* Authorized application to Department of Community Affairs for Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing 2, 2019 grant for $400,000 for the period from Oct. 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020.
* Approved a resolution that authorizes “the filing of all pleadings necessary to attain possession of real property abutting” C.R. 661, Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood for improvements to the road from George Redding Bridge to New Jersey Avenue, known as the “Gateway Project.” Cap on expenses is $409,600 for those properties whose owners did not respond or rejected the county offer.
* Permitted Upper Township to erect a pole barn/batting cage at Amanda’s Field on Open Space property. Also gave permission to hold a car show and festival Nov. 3 at that location.
* Gave approval to American Aerospace Technologies, Inc. for a hurricane response exercise using drones in October 2018.
