Board OKs School’s First ‘Color Run’

CREST HAVEN – Middle Township Middle School’s first Color Run in Cape May County Park won thumbs up from freeholders Feb. 9. The April 30 event will be a one mile fun run/5K.
Participants will use a portion of the park for the event.
In other action the board:
Appointed Violet Rixey of Court House as a member of the Advisory Commission on the Status of Women. Her three-year term will expire Feb. 9, 2019.
Approved an open-end agreement with Comcast Spotlight, Inc. for advertising of county departments. The enabling resolution noted the county “desires to promote the county for not only its tourism industry but also the various happenings and services all county departments collectively offer. Comcast has the exclusive franchise agreement with every municipality in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg area, and is the only entity able to offer the localized spot advertising on cable networks. The tourism director will place the advertising for a period a year with two one-year renewal options.
Approved contract documents to permit the re-bid of the Correctional Center, since six bids came in about $7 million over budget. Bids will be received March 23 by 2 p.m.
Appointed Marmora resident and Upper Township Committeeman Jeffrey Pierson as a member of the Pollution Control Financing Authority until Feb. 1, 2021. Pierson, a retired National Guard brigadier general, is the county’s supervisor of veteran’s interments.
Appointed Jeffrey Lindsay as affirmative action officer for the county. An attorney, Lindsay is director of human resources and training for the county.
Reappointed George Betts of Tuckahoe to the county Municipal Utilities Authority with a term that expires Feb. 1, 2021. He serves as chairman of the authority.
For its animal shelter, the county authorized a shared services agreement with various municipalities for animal sheltering services.
Entered a shared services agreement with the state Department of Human Services to use the Woodbine Developmental Center as a shelter in time of crisis when an emergency is declared.
In Emergency Management William Bailey was appointed as communications coordinator, permanent full-time by virtue of state Civil Service certification as of Jan. 22, 2016.
Approved agreements with Harry Wozunk, Mike Eck, and James Sampson as responders for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive incidents for the Health Department at a rate of $25 per hour with three-hour minimum per call, not to exceed $2,000 through June 30, 2016.
