Board OKs Falkinburge House Funds To Refurbish Historic Exterior

CREST HAVEN – A Historic Preservation Trust Fund grant to The Arc of Cape May County was approved June 14 by freeholders to restore the exterior of the Joseph Falkinburge House in South Dennis. 
Per the resolution, the amount is not to exceed $200,000.
The Arc of Cape May County applied for the money to rehabilitate and preserve the historic building’s exterior.
It further noted that The Arc is “an eligible applicant” in accordance with guidelines established 2015. The building is listed on the state and national Register of Historic Places. The Arc owns the structure.
The project is to conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Initially, the entity sought $666,538, which was subsequently reduced. The Open Space Review Board considered the project Sept. 22, 2015, and April 26, 2016. A public hearing was held Dec. 22, 2015.
The Southern Regional Medical Examiner was authorized to continue to provide service to Cape May County in another supplement agreement that will start July 1. The term is five years, per the resolution approved by freeholders June 14.
The county shares the services with Cumberland County; the agreement is with the state Department of Law and Public Safety.
In a County Prosecutor related matter, freeholders approved a resolution with iRobot of Bedford, Mass. to repair the SWAT Tactical Robot, which sustained damage that made the robot inoperable and requires immediate corrective action, according to the resolution.
The cost of repair is $19,789.
Preparing for the renovation of the Superior Courthouse, the board awarded a $337,000 open-end contract for professional services for the project to The Design Collaborative Architects and Planners, PA of Court House.
Under an articulation agreement with Atlantic Cape Community College, approved June 14, graduates of the county Police Academy and Corrections Academy will be afforded the opportunity to earn college credit for “competencies mastered” at the academies. The term is from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.
The cost of the Stone Harbor branch of the County Library increased by $20,528 per a change order to Aliano Brothers General Contractors. The sum was for the installation of downspouts, triangular ceiling tiles and a fire stop above the elevator hoist.
A $300,000 commercial fishing revolving loan was approved to Ocean Clam Inc. of 521 Woodbine-Ocean View Road, Ocean View for the refurbishment of the F/V Madison III. The term was seven years with interest rate of 2 percent. Richard Stocker made a personal guarantee for the loan.
Another commercial fishing loan for $75,600 was approved to Stormy Bay Oyster Co., LLC, of 6 Glade Dr., Cape May. Security on the loan is the first mortgage on the 31-foot fiberglass diesel vessel, personally guaranteed by Charles Martin and Samuel Martin. The term was seven years with interest rate of 2 percent.
Authorization was given to apply for a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant to help finance a series of monthly forums working with “innovators and entrepreneurs in evolving technologies related to unmanned aerial systems including at the site of the Cape May County Airport.”
Realizing traffic gridlock occurs at the main gate of the County Park in Swainton, the board approved use of competitive contracting seeking engineering services for the park entrances and parking improvements.
