Board OKs 3 Commercial Fishing Loans

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders approved three commercial fishing loans that total $350,000 at the June 27 meeting. 
All are for seven years at 2 percent interest. They are given to stimulate low and moderate income jobs in the local market.
The largest was for $150,000 to Dave Burkhardt Welding Inc. of Fishing Creek Road, Cape May. The loan will be used to upgrade an existing building. Guaranteeing the loan is David Burkhardt.
One for $125,000 was to Eckel’s Diesel LLC of Tecumseh Road, Cape May. It will be used to purchase land and building. Guaranteeing the loan is Charles Eckel.
Another loan for $75,000 to Carmen’s Lobster Pool, Inc. of Sea Isle City will be used to buy equipment for a boat with electronics, dock repair, and dock equipment.
In other actions the board:
* Approved an extension to a contract with Center for Family Services Inc. for youth shelter services until June 30, 2018.
* Approved an agreement with Seawave Corp., doing business as the Cape May County Herald, for its Aug. 26, 50th anniversary and community day at Cape May County Park.
* Approved a contract for $848,000 with U.S.A. Contractors Corp. of Elizabeth for a metal roof replacement at 110 Justice Way, the County Prosecutor’s Office building.
* Awarded a $73,452 change order with Aliano Brothers General Contractors of Vineland for work to correct drainage problems at the new primate exhibit at the County Park and Zoo that was caused by previous projects adjacent to the exhibit.
