CREST HAVEN – The $18-million bond that will fund, among other things, demolition of the former Everlon Building at the County Airport, ($6 million for which freeholders are seeking a grant from the federal government to cover), was passed with public comment Aug. 8.
Listed for capital improvements, the bond will also fund security upgrades at various county facilities, and put aside slightly over $4 million for Bridge Commissioner improvements for all the toll bridges except Ocean City-Longport.
Another $4 million will fund other county-owned bridge upgrades and buy technology upgrades, including computer hardware and software for $450,000.
In relation to the demolition of the Everlon Building, freeholders also passed a resolution to file a pre-application to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration for the grant to cover the cost of the work.
In other action the board:
* Renewed the shared services agreement with Avalon for three years to dispatch fire and emergency medical services through the Office of Emergency Management.
* Approved a commercial fishing revolving loan for $300,000 to H&L Axelsson Inc. of Cape May. The seven-year, 2-percent loan will fund deck arrangement renovations and purchase new equipment. The loan is guaranteed by Lars Axelsson, Dan Axelsson, and Bo Magnusson. It is a preferred ship mortgage on the F/V Dyrsten.
* Authorized a shared services agreement with Wildwood for special municipal event coverage.
* Approved documents for advertisement of a project to dredge ponds at the Cape May County Park in Swainton.
* Due to extra work on the new primate exhibit at the zoo, the board approved a $27,724 change order for Aliano Brothers of Vineland for fencing, a water heater, asphalt replacement, galvanized rods and steel supports for the roof.
