COURT HOUSE – County Park and Zoo announced the birth of a female American Bison calf, born June 5, to the zoo’s resident female Bison ‘Zippy’ and male Bison ‘Hank.’
This young female marks the fourth calf for this pair. The calf is doing very well and is visible every day in the North American Prairie habitat, according to a release.
Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, who oversees the park and zoo, reported, “The Cape May County Zoo is very active in American Bison conservation. We donated a young female bison to Colorado State University in 2015, as part of a Bison Restoration Program in the Laramie Foothills Region of Colorado and Wyoming.
“Our Zoo is AZA accredited and involved in the Species Survival Plan. We are excited to be playing a part in the worldwide conservation efforts to help endangered species.”
