CAPE MAY – The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee of Cape May produced a brochure that is bound to delight visitors who want to explore Cape Island car-free.
The brochure lists architectural and historic sites, nature trails, parks, and other notable locations. It’s in the maps that the brochure uniquely adds value.
The eight-fold brochure opens to color-coded maps that provide road keys for bicycle riders through three municipalities on the island: Cape May, West Cape May and Cape May Point.
Colors, the traditional green, yellow and red of the traffic light, are used to denote roads that are green and “bike friendly” with designated bike lanes. Roads marked in red are clear warnings that the route is not bike friendly and should be avoided. Yellow is reserved for routes where extra caution should be employed.
Dangerous intersections are clearly marked as well.
The maps also list the location of public restrooms, bike rental and repair spots, car-parking locations, including free lots, and walking trails.
The brochure invites visitors to park the car and “leave the keys,” showing many ways to explore an island in which “no place is very far from any other place.”
