ERMA – The infamous Everlon Building’s doom is sealed at the Cape May County Airport. For under $2.4 million, the building that once was to be a driver of the area’s economic success will be leveled, its polluted soil removed, and all traces of it removed.
Performing the demolition will be The Ambient Group of Sewell. Its bid of $2,392,105 was the lowest of seven bids. Freeholders awarded the contract by means of a resolution at the Feb. 13 meeting. That bid was less than the $6 million originally anticipated for the work.
Bids were opened Feb. 8. The highest bid was nearly $1.2 billion by USA Environmental Management Inc. of Philadelphia. Next highest bid was from MECO Demolition Inc. of Bensalem, Pa. for $5.9 million.
The job will entail building and utility demolition, removal of hardscape, hazardous material, and asbestos abatement.
The bid called for the removal of 5,285 tons of contaminated soil, removal of PCB tainted ground floor, concrete and transformer mezzanine and post-excavation sampling and dewatering.
