Benches Provide Resting Place on Crest Beach Pier

By Herald Staff

WILDWOOD CREST — The Borough of Wildwood Crest has installed five benches on the Beach Pier at Heather Road for the public’s enjoyment.
A Spout Off in the July 20 print edition chastises the borough for not having benches when, in fact, benches exist for the public, as evidenced by the photograph that accompanies this article.
Those benches, which were assembled and put in place by the borough’s Department of Public Works, are located on the deck of the pier closest to the ocean.
Formerly the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier, the structure was built in 1919 and owned and operated by the Wildwood Crest Fishing Club for more than 85 years.
The pier was eventually turned over to the borough in 2006 and was refurbished in 2008 partly through a grant from the N.J. Department of Community Affairs.
