VILLAS — Mayor Michael Beck and Lower Township Council will establish a nine-member Mayor’s Advisory Board consisting of community members.
“It will involve a lot of the talented people that we have who are currently not involved in government,” said Beck at a meeting Monday.
An old ordinance enabling an advisory board called for 25 members.
“I can’t imagine that you would have a lot of ability to have your talents rise to the top when you have that many people,” said the mayor.
He noted the board would not cost the township any money at all.
“You can never get enough advice,” said Beck, noting the board would direct the mayor and council.
Each councilman would get to select one member of the board and the mayor will pick five members.
All four councilmen said they supported the idea.
An ordinance will be introduced at council’s next meeting to create the board.
Those interested in serving on the Mayor’s Advisory Board may contact the mayor, a councilman or clerk.
Beck said the price of copies of documents from the Township Clerk’s office would be lowered to 15 cents each. He said he wanted more information on the township’s Web site including the names of members of the planning and zoning boards. He also wants to include an application to serve on a board.
Beck said he would like to put on-line how much township employees and those holding professional contracts are paid without revealing personal information or using names.
