Beach Fill Project Finishes in Sea Isle City

By Herald Staff

SEA ISLE CITY PRESS RELEASE:
SEA ISLE CITY — The Beach Nourishment Project has come to a completion in Sea Isle City. The project took place from 1st to 15th Street, and 40th to 52nd Street. It was an operation that took place 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week since its start.
The project was contracted by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection and the contractor who performed the work was the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. The sand was conveyed via a pipeline, which extended from the dredge in Corson’s Inlet to the area of the fill. Four shore towns are involved in the project, with work completed in Strathmere and Sea Isle City, and still to be done in Stone Harbor and Wildwood. The project cost was about $3.5 million, with the State paying 75% and the municipalities paying the remaining 25%.
Sea Isle began its portion of the project in August and received about 400,000 cubic yards of sand. The dredge is expected to continue on to the next town by Monday, September 14—weather permitting. Currently, all beaches are open to the public and the pipes and equipment are expected to be dismantled and removed from the beaches by Saturday, September 12.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, the operation will now move to either North Wildwood or Stone Harbor. It started in Strathmere in July.
