STONE HARBOR – A late-season uptick in complaints about liquor consumption on the beach prompted Stone Harbor Police Chief Thomas Schutta to incorporate plainclothes patrols into the normal enforcement efforts on the borough’s beaches.

Schutta explained at a borough council meeting Aug. 21 that police had issued summons regarding 10 violations of the alcohol regulations since Memorial Day with three of those following on the heels of the recent plainclothes enforcement initiative.

On the whole, Schutta was pleased with the enforcement effort this year but said that the department might go to plain-clothes patrols earlier in the 2019 season.
