WILDWOOD ─ City Engineer Edward Dennis was scheduled to meet, Dec. 20, with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP, regarding the status of the back-bay landfill. According to previous statements by Mayor Ernie Troiano, progress has slowed due to compliance with DEP regarding permits.
City Administrator Christopher Fox said the city will test the soil around the perimeter, on city-owned property. Fox told the Herald the DEP wanted the city to test on private property as well.
Property owners were not in favor of the contamination testing, thus requiring the city to meet with DEP. According to Fox, the DEP is no longer pursuing soil testing on private property, and the meeting was canceled. City officials will pursue contamination testing on city-owned property in the region of Baker and Susquehanna avenues.
