AVALON – Avalon Borough Council introduced a $27.9-million municipal budget Feb. 27.
The budget calls for no increase in the local purpose tax levy which will remain at $0.199. The municipal tax rate is among the lowest in the county.
The $8.9 billion cumulative property valuation in the borough means that property owners in 2018 paid the second highest average property tax at $7,749.
The budget for the water and sewer utility was introduced at $6.9 million with no proposed increase in rates. The 2019 utility budget also makes no claim on general tax revenues, eliminating the $213,357 deficit in the 2018 budget.
The beach utility budget at $1.6 million calls for no increase in beach-tag fees. The utility’s budget has a $414,708 deficit which will be met with funds from the general budget.
Avalon’s municipal budget calls for maintaining a $3.5-million surplus. The 2019 budget also calls for appropriating $6.6 million to fund capital projects and debt payments.
A public hearing on the budget will be held at the April 10 Council meeting at 4 p.m.
