AVALON — More than a dozen members of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department received water rescue training from the National Water Safety Congress on Wed., July 28.
The field training exercise took place on Avalon’s 37th Street beach during the afternoon hours.
Avalon Fire Chief Ed Dean along with 15 members of the fire department received classroom and field training during the day-long training exercise. As a result, all of the participants are now certified for personal watercraft rescues.
The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department has two personal water craft that can be used for ocean and bay rescues in the event of a boating accident, or to rescue a distressed swimmer when lifeguards are not present.
