AVALON – Avalon Assistant Business Administrator James Waldron briefed borough council April 11 concerning proposed changes to the criminal background check for borough employees and volunteers whose jobs place them in direct contact with minors.
Speaking specifically of the borough’s desire to tighten the procedures for individuals involved in the many recreation programs run by the municipality, Waldron said that full background checks, involving fingerprint verification, would be required every two years.
In years when fingerprints are not required, individuals would still have their names run through New Jersey State Police systems to check for any change in status.
A break in service of six months or more would also trigger the need for a full check, including fingerprints.
Waldron also said that contractors running recreation programs in the borough would be subject to the same requirements as for employees and volunteers.
