Avalon Seeks Stormwater Solution

By Vince Conti

AVALON – On July 29, 2017, Avalon experienced a rain event that pumped 5 inches of rain on the borough in a short period of time. The event displayed dramatic evidence of the problems in the north end and beach blocks of the borough where the infrastructure of stormwater pumps and drainage systems could not handle the kind of rain event that may become more common in the future.
Mayor Martin Pagliughi and borough council authorized a comprehensive study of drainage issues and potential capital improvements for the northeast part of the community. That study is in its final review stages and will be presented to council in an open public meeting May 23.
