Avalon Restricts Outdoor Water Use

By Leslie Truluck

AVALON – The borough is reinstating its even/odd outdoor water use system to try to reduce use and avoid fines for exceeding its water allocation set by the Department of Environmental Protection.
Residents whose address is an odd number can conduct outdoor watering on any odd-numbered day.
If the home address is an even number, they may conduct outdoor watering on any even day of the month.
No outdoor watering is permitted on the 31st of any month.
Officials said it is not a water supply issue, but rather a water allocation issue with the DEP limits for municipalities, for which steep fines may be imposed if exceeded.
The borough exceeded its allocation last year. Officials said the borough would also take steps to restrict its own water use.
Rental tenants should also be made aware of the program.
Low-level water use is permitted outside anytime.
