AVALON – The Avalon Police Department has been reaccredited for the fourth consecutive time by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. It is a distinction earned by only 7% of state law enforcement agencies.
What made the reaccreditation even more unusual was a perfect compliance score for the second consecutive time, an achievement that only 1% of state agencies attain.
The department, headed by Chief Jeffrey Christopher, is, in the words of Mayor Martin Pagliughi, “One of the finest, most well-trained departments in the State of New Jersey.”
Christopher added to the accolades by gaining the status of accredited chief executive after the completion of a program for police leadership that included the West Point Command and Leadership Academy and the Police Executive Institute.
The awards were presented at the Jan. 25 meeting of Avalon Borough Council. Accreditation status is for three years.
