Avalon Plans No-Cost Debris Collection

AVALON — Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi and the Avalon Department of Public Works have announced a debris collection policy in the Borough following the departure of Hurricane Sandy. Avalon is exercising a no-cost contract with Phillips & Jordan to provide immediate large debris collection in the community.
“Hurricane Sandy is exactly the reason why we developed a comprehensive recovery plan for the Borough of Avalon,” Pagliughi stated in a release. “We will provide large debris collection in our community at no cost to the Avalon taxpayer immediately”.
This bulk trash debris will come at no cost to the Borough of Avalon and will be paid with funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Phillips & Jordan is using sub-contractors to collect the large debris that was left on private property during the recent Hurricane Sandy storm event. Every vehicle that is being used for the collection will have a special Phillips & Jordan sign posted, with an official truck number for Avalon cleanup.
Avalon property owners are urged immediately to bring this large debris from their properties for curbside collection. This debris should not be placed in the street; it should be placed between the sidewalk and the curb for immediate collection.
Some examples of debris that will be collected include wood, wood docks, furniture, drywall, carpeting, furniture, filing cabinets and other materials. Any white goods including refrigerators, washers and dryers can also be placed curbside but separated from other construction debris.
The Avalon Department of Public Works reminds all property owners that there is trash collection by Waste Management on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; the normal trash collection schedule resumes next week. Trash and recyclables only may also be dropped off at the courtesy trash and recycling station at Avalon Public Works on 15th Street at Dune Drive everyday between the hours of 7:00am and 3:00pm. Sea grass that washed onto private property may also be raked in front of properties and into the street, but not in the right of way of motorists and not on storm drains.
