AVALON – Avalon Borough Council adopted a $27.9-million 2019 budget April 10, representing a decrease of $63,000 from 2018.
The budget was achieved with no increase in the municipal tax rate which remains at $.199 per $100 of assessed value. The budget also calls for no increase in water and sewer rates or beach tags, the principal sources of revenue for the borough’s two self-liquidating utilities.
The budget makes use of a conservative 51% of accumulated surplus, maintaining the borough’s fund surplus at levels that facilitate its high bond rating.
Major capital improvements in the budget include the 2019 road improvement program, continued work on the north end drainage project, the dredging of Pennsylvania Harbor and additional funding for Surfside Park.
