Avalon OKs Budget

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Avalon Borough Council adopted a $28-million budget for 2018. The operating budget for the borough decreased $366,000 from 2017 largely due to drops in three budget-neutral items. Spending in 2018 will be up $790,000.
Even with a 12-percent drop in the municipal tax rate, the amount to be raised by taxation will increase $800,000. This is due to the $1.4 billion increase in borough ratables. The municipal tax rate stands at $0.199 compared to $0.226 in 2017.
The beach utility budget is $1.59 million, supported almost exclusively from the sale of beach tags.
The water and sewer utility budget is $6.6 million.
