Avalon Introduces $2.3M Bond for Jetty

By Vince Conti

AVALON – The Eighth Street jetty in Avalon was damaged by Winter Storm Jonas in January 2016. The full extent of the damage was revealed as a result of a 2018 side-scan radar test.
Avalon Borough Council introduced a bond ordinance Sept. 25, allocating $2.3 million for the jetty’s repair. Funds expected from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other federal and state sources will be used to offset the amount to be borrowed, or to repay the notes if those funds are not received until after the notes are issued.
FEMA has agreed that the underwater damage shown in the side-scan radar was the result of the storm.
