Avalon Extends Tax Payments

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Citing delayed information regarding the New Jersey state budget, Avalon officials have extended the period for interest and penalty- free payment of third-quarter tax bills.
This year third quarter tax bills will be due by Aug. 24. The normal deadline is Aug. 1.
Property owners who do not pay by Aug. 24 will be assessed interest retroactive to Aug. 1 Business Administrator Scott Wahl told Borough Council at the July 25 council meeting.
Borough officials said Avalon’s 2018 combined tax rate of $0.488 per $100 of assessed value is the lowest in Cape May County. The portion of the combined tax rate that is for municipal purposes is $0.199. The most recent assessment figures show the borough’s ratable base at $8.933 billion.
