AVALON — In updating site plan, dune and zoning ordinances for the borough’s master plan, Neil Hensel, president of the combined Planning/Zoning Board, presented proposed changes to Chapter 27 of zoning code to council at its meeting Jan. 28.
A result of taking out redundancy included a change that “the board” will be referred to as just “board.” Council President David Ellenberg noted it was “a play on words.”
Also, Hensel noted that a reference to allow hunting was removed.
Councilmember Nancy Hudanich said that reference dated to the beginnings of the borough when cattle roamed. Council members joked that the only game on the island now are skunks.
Updates included a reference to on-ground pools which previously did not exist.
Pools are not allowed on decks, only hot tubs and spas.
On-ground pools, which are the same level as a deck, are now differentiated from in-ground or aboveground pools, depending on distance from the ground.
The objective of the code was updated to read, “to invigorate the business environment.”
