Assemblymen-elect Oppose Proposed Gun Law

TRENTON – Assemblymen-elect Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan raised grave concerns over a proposed bill (A-6003) that requires gun owners to have at least $50,000 in liability insurance to possess a firearm.
According to a release, “Once again law-abiding citizens’ rights are being infringed,” stated McClellan (R-1st). “This is just another way to bully the people of New Jersey into giving in or giving up their guns. I was elected to do what’s right, and standing up for the rights of gun owners is paramount. I will continue to stand up for the constitutional rights of Americans.”
If passed, the bill would prohibit licensed dealers from selling firearms to people without liability insurance.
“The same people who feel it’s necessary to give driver’s licenses to defiant law-breakers are the same ones trying to pass this nonsense,” stated Simonsen. (R-1st). “When did we become a state that put lawbreakers first, while attacking the rights of hard-working, law-abiding citizens? This is something I will not stand for because the rights of New Jerseyans and gun owners matter. It might not matter to the Democrats, but it matters to me.”
The bill also requires gun owners to carry a copy of their liability insurance or risk having their firearms confiscated by law enforcement.
“I am proud to say we have some of the best law enforcement agencies in the country, and this bill would do nothing but waste their precious time,” stated McClellan.
“This is another unhelpful bill the Democrats created to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. The Democrats are really making a habit of creating problems when there aren’t any,” added Simonsen.
