Area Youth to Compete in Baseball Competition

CAPE MAY — The Cape May P.A,L, in conjunction with Aquatina and Major League Baseball are sponsoring a Pitch, Hit & Run contest. The contest will be held at l p.m. Registration starts at noon on April 18 at Cape May Elementary School.
Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game.
The contest is divided into three different components.
The PITCH portion of the program will test how accurately a competitor can throw strikes from 45 feet to a designated “Strike Zone” target. The HIT portion of the program will test a competitor’s ability to hit a baseball from a stationary tee. Hits will be measured for distance and accuracy.
The RUN portion of the program will measure a competitor’s speed in a sprint from second base, around third, and across home plate.
The competition is free to enter and all participants will receive a Major League Baseball card. Both overall and individual event winners in each age group will receive a ribbon and will move on to compete in the Sectional Contest.
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/ waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
