Approve Warming Center

COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee approved a memorandum of understanding with Cape Community Church on Route 9 in Burleigh Jan. 23, designating the church as a warming center during Code Blue alerts.
A change in policy this year removed the county and its voucher system as the official response to Code Blue alerts and transitioned the responsibility of establishing warming centers to the municipalities. With winter quickly approaching, municipalities took steps to open temporary locations, several, including Middle, doing so in the lobby of the police department.
Transportation to the warming center can be arranged. Anyone seeking to use the center during a Code Blue alert should call the Cape May County Homeless Hotline at 609-886-1325.
