Appoint Perry to Pollution Control; Honor Kooker for Service to County

CREST HAVEN – Freeholders have appointed David Perry of Villas as a member of the Pollution Control Financing Authority. He will fill the unexpired term of Freeholder Jeffrey Pierson, whose term will expire Feb. 1, 2021. The action was taken March 28. 
Edwin G. Kooker Sr., of Marmora, was honored by freeholders with the passage of a resolution attesting to his 50-year-plus membership in Marmora Volunteer Fire Co. In that capacity, he served as captain, communications officer, and as a member of the Fire District No. 3 Commission.
Additionally, Kooker served as chairman of the Cape May County Park Commission.
Kooker is an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and retired from Bell Atlantic/Verizon after 36 years.
In other action the board:
* Proclaimed March as Red Cross Month and heard from Carol Cohen of the Red Cross, joined by Ronnie Town, a Red Cross volunteer. Cohen said the organization had responded to 10 fires and flood situations in the past year. It aided 57 families and installed 141 free smoke detectors. Local donors gave over 4,000 units of blood in the county. Cohen said nine military families had been assisted by Red Cross.
* Accepted from the Federal Aviation Administration authorization for drone flights at the county airport.
* Awarded contract to Fabbri Builders Inc. of Vineland to build a pole bar at the Mosquito Control Department for $236,836. Engineer Dale Foster said the firm’s bid was lowest of four bids, which ranged upward to $363,500.
