PETERSBURG – At its regular meeting Dec. 18, Upper Township Committee received an update from township Engineer Paul Dietrich, about plans to revive the municipality’s summer-months farmer’s market.
The market was establishing itself as a popular destination for both residents and visitors after a couple of years’ operation. However, this past summer, market organizers learned they could no longer use the grounds near the intersection of Routes 50 and 9 in Seaville because of a zoning issue.
“We’re talking to interested parties, including a potential manager, to see how we can bring back the farmer’s market,” explained Dietrich. “We’re thinking Amanda’s Field might be the best long-term solution.”
Committee member, Hobie Young, quickly agreed, noting, “long-term-wise, Amanda’s Field is clearly the best solution. We know the great support the market could get from locating there. We have more than sufficient parking, restrooms, and it’s a well-known location.”
Committee member, Curtis Corson, added, “The market is better off at Amanda’s Field rather than trying to find an adequate location in Marmora, for example.” Mayor Richard Palombo also indicated his support of restoring the farmer’s market to the township, and Dietrich said he will keep committee abreast of developments as they ensue early in 2018.
