OCEAN CITY – A change order approved by Ocean City Council July 12 on a $7.8-million drainage project in the city’s north end is set to increase the cost by just over $36,700.
First Ward City Councilman Michael DeVlieger asked the resolution be removed from the consent agenda and voted on separately. As originally worded, the resolution showed the project going from a 24-inch pipe to an 18-inch pipe. He did not want to see any loss of capacity.
“It turned out from the individuals I spoke with that it was just an error,” DeVlieger said. Instead, the change was to replace an 18-inch cast iron pipe with a plastic pipe of the same size. City officials say the plastic pipe is cheaper and will last longer.
Council unanimously approved the change.
The project is underway, and is expected to continue into the fall and potentially into next spring, DeVlieger said.
