COURT HOUSE – Long-time homeless advocate Sam Kelly has been urging the Middle Township Committee to by-pass county officials and take the problem of the area’s homeless directly to the state. Kelly calls the current voucher system a failure and argues that the freeholders have shown no inclination to deal with the problem in a more effective way.
At the July 2 township committee meeting, Kelly announced that Assemblyman Robert Andrzejczak (D-1st) had agreed to meet “with key advocates to bring support for our homeless crisis.”
Kelly reported that he had commitments from Sandra Lockhart and Terri Mascione of The Branches, Barb Allison of Cape Hope, Bob Stahler, pastor of the Great Commission Baptist Church, and Hugh Blair of a Voice for the Homeless.
Kelly said the group will seek state intervention “in dealing with this desperate issue.” The date for the meeting has not been set.
