RIO GRANDE – Dining competition in this crossroads community will grow more intense should Middle Township Planning Board approve a proposal to locate a 4,316-square-foot McDonald’s fast food restaurant, featuring side-by-side drive-through lanes on the pad site formerly occupied by Sonic.
There are 17 outlets or restaurants here featuring cuisines that include American, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, pizzas, hoagies, donuts and ice cream.
A legal notice, to be printed in the Oct. 8 edition of the Herald explains the proposal of McDonald’s USA LLC, based in Blue Bell, Pa. The tentative date of hearing is Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 33 Mechanic St., Court House.
Owner of the parcel is Delco LLC, of Willingboro, which developed the Grande Center where Wal-Mart, Lowes and other retailers are located on Route 9. Attorney for the applicant is Stephen R. Nehmad of Egg Harbor Township.
The applicant seeks approval and variances that include: preliminary and final site plan approval and variances from maximum setback requirements, requirement for a cornice around the roof of the proposed restaurant structure, requirement for roof outlets, minimum requirements for number of on-site parking spaces provided, and total maximum permitted number of building-mounted and freestanding signs, together with any and all other variances, design waivers and submission waivers the board may require.
A copy of the documents detailing the proposal may be inspected at the Middle Township Planning Board, Zoning Office during normal business hours.
