STONE HARBOR – At Stone Harbor Borough Council’s work session Jan. 15, Dr. Lenore Tedesco, executive director of The Wetlands Institute, reported on struggles with Facebook as the borough has tried to gain access to the bird sanctuary’s Facebook account.
Tedesco reported that the person who set up the account for the sanctuary did so as a personal account. When the individual died, Facebook would not give the borough access to the account.
“This has not been easy,” Tedesco said, and “that’s the understatement of the decade.” Lack of access has left the borough unable to update and maintain the site.
“I kid you not. Unless you are Russia you cannot gain access to that account,” she told borough council.
Tedesco said that a workaround may be close to implementation in which the borough will set up a new account and Facebook will “try” to close the old account. “We hope to have access to a bird sanctuary page soon,” she added.
