COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee will hold a public hearing July 16 at 5 p.m. for an application from Cape Mining and Recycling related to “dumping dredge materials.” The company is seeking approval to “transport dredge soils within the confines of Middle Township” and a permit “to receive, deposit, store and process dredge soils” at its site at 560 Goshen Road, Court House.
Cape Mining ran into problems at its Lower Township site in 2017 when the company was issued three violations by the state Department of Environmental Protection related to the storing and reporting of dredge materials. That site, in Erma, temporarily suspended accepting dredge material while responding to the state’s concerns.
Chapter 260 of the township code prohibits the transportation or dumping of dredge soil without a township permit. The ordinance also requires a public hearing on any application related to the handling of dredge material. The Middle Township Clerk’s office said that as of July 9 no action was expected by the committee at the hearing.
