COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti and her staff will host the Ninth Annual Archives Day Presentation entitled “Early School Houses and the Early Community School Board in Cape May County” followed by Archives Tour on Oct. 23 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Old Historic Court House, located at 11 N. Main Street here. Coffee and tea will be served at 9:30 a.m.
Fulginiti will offer historical document exhibits and present an overview of the historical collections maintained in the County Clerk’s Archives. Laurie Thomas, a local historian and employee of the County Clerk’s Office will present a look into the formation of early education in Cape May County particularly the one room school house and community based “school board” of the 1800’s.
At the conclusion of the program, all are invited to return to the County Clerk’s Archives for a tour and hands-on training session in the use of public records for research. Deputy County Clerk Diana Hevener and Laurie Thomas will lead the session.
“The presentation, exhibits and tour will be interesting to anyone who enjoys history and researching public records” Fulginiti said. “There is always something interesting to discover from the past.”
This is the ninth in an annual series held during the month of October which is celebrated as American Archives Month by the Society of American Archivists.
