COURT HOUSE — By popular demand, the Cape May County Creative Recycling Contest Committee will host the 4th Annual County-Wide Creative Recycling Contest! The contest officially kicks off on Nov. 15, “America Recycles Day,” the nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products. The contest is open to all residents of Cape May County and provides an excellent educational opportunity for students, teachers and residents.
Cape May County implemented Single Stream Recycling on April 1, 2013. It is apropos that “Single Stream Recycling” is the theme for this year’s contest. The Committee hopes that participants will not only have fun creating their exhibits but that this event will also heighten everyone’s commitment to Cape May County’s Single Stream Recycling Program. Entries must use, but are not limited to, Single Stream Recyclable materials. The contest goal is to produce creative exhibits with the most diverse use of Single Stream Recyclable materials: Plastic and Glass Containers, Steel (tin) and Aluminum Cans, Cardboard, Magazines, News and Other Paper. Visit www.cmcmua.com for information on Single Stream Recycling.
The County-wide contest has no age limit. Past winners have submitted truly remarkable and creative exhibits. There will be winners chosen in each age category as well as a “People’s Choice Award”. The categories are: Ages 8 and under, Ages 9 to12, Ages 13 to 17 and Adults. Please note: this year group entries will be limited to 2 individuals per entry.
All entries must be submitted with a completed entry form and dropped off at the 4-H Lockwood Building in Cape May Court House on April 2, 2014, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Once again the entries will be proudly exhibited at the Sea Isle City Public Library April 7 through 12. A “Meet and Greet the Artist” will be held on April 9 at the Library. Contest winners will be formally announced and awarded at the Cape May County Earth Day Fair on April 26, 2014 at the Cape May County Park & Zoo.
The contest rules and entry forms are available on the CMCMUA website (www.cmcmua.com).
The Committee hopes all will be inspired to take part and showcase their resourceful and extraordinary talents!
We are looking for volunteers to help spread the word to schools, senior centers, civic groups, church groups, and any other organizations. Contact any member on the Contest Committee for more details!
