COURT HOUSE — Through Sat., July 21, there will be lots of activity at the Cape May County 4-H Fairgrounds on Court House-Dennisville Road as the annual 4-H Fair lasts from morning through nightfall.
On Thur., July 19, members of livestock clubs experienced the culmination of raising lambs and hogs as they paraded them around the ring hoping to fetch good prices per pound for their animal.
Dennis Township Mayor Eugene Glembocki again conducted the livestock auction as young and old alike were mesmerized by the scene that unfolded before them.
In the nearby horse pavilion other 4-H members were grooming their steads in preparation for shows that will be another facet of the fair.
To some, the fair is an opportunity to meet friends they possibly have not seen since the 2011 fair.
Helping to feed the hungry crowd their barbecued chicken, succotash, and other delights were members of the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Director Gerald Thornton, Vice Director M. Susan Sheppard, Will Morey, Kristine Gabor, Sheriff Gary Schaffer and County Clerk Rita Fulginiti and members of the 4-H Foundation.
The John Walter Community Band under direction of Richard Ludwig provided early evening music that included a medley of songs ending with John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.’
New 4-H Agent Julie Karavan was pleased that temperatures were slightly cooler than previous days, and also grateful that rain held off for the day. Showers are predicted Friday, but the fair will go on regardless of weather conditions.
There is a variety of food to enjoy, from the chicken barbecue to funnel cakes and pizza, and cooling drinks.
