NEWARK — U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced a combined $2.5 million in federal grants to improve safety and operations in eight local fire departments across New Jersey. Administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) can be utilized to purchase emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
“It’s absolutely critical that New Jersey fire departments have the resources they need to save lives and keep communities safe,” said Sen. Menendez. “These federal grants will help ensure our local fire departments have the equipment they need to both protect firefighters and expand their capacity to respond to fires and emergencies in the neighborhoods they serve.”
“When our communities face emergencies, it’s the brave men and women in New Jersey’s local firehouses who put their own safety on the line to project our families,” said Sen. Booker. “That’s why we must continue to fight for federal investments like this in the latest equipment and training in order to enable our first responders to do their jobs safely and efficiently.”
