AVALON MANOR — About 6 p.m. Feb. 4, a boat in the water was reported on fire at Avalon Pointe Marina along the Intracoastal Waterway here.
First responders from Court House and Avalon fire companies found the moored 38-foot 1963 woodden Chris Craft yacht engulfed in flames.
Although they brought the initial fire under control, the stubborn blaze, likely fed by some 200 gallons of fuel and other flammables aboard, kept reigniting.
Foam and water were poured on the flames. Firefighters also arrived to assist from Stone Harbor. Tankers were also summoned from Green Creek and Ocean View, as well as Middle Township Emergency Medical Services, according to Paul Hand, Court House assistant fire chief, who supervised the scene.
The responding companies were mostly cleared from the scene by 8 p.m., but N.J. State Police Marine Bureau investigators will seek to find the exact cause of the fire later on Feb. 5 after Sea Tow gets the vessel out of the water.
There was no report of injuries.
