UPDATED: Wildwood Boardwalk Fire Damages Four Stores

WILDWOOD — A multi-alarm fire in the 3200 block of Wildwood’s Boardwalk brought response from island and offshore fire companies May 24 about 3:48 a.m.
According to an eyewitness, four stores were involved. One was destroyed while the others sustained smoke damage.
Wildwood police reported that at 3:48 a.m., Police Officer Andrew Granero was on patrol and saw smoke coming from the area of Wildwood and the Boardwalk.
Additional officers arrived and confirmed a structure fire within 3212 Boardwalk.

The store, “Fortune Sportswear” was unoccuied and sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
Smoke damage was noted at 32314, 3210, and 32,08 Boardwalk.
Several neighboring apartments continued about 10 occupants, all of whom were safely evacuated by responding officers. Some of them were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
Responding agencies included Wildwood Fire Department, North Wildwood Fire Department, West Wildwood Fire Department, Rio Grande Fire Department, Wildwood Crest Rescue Squad, Cape May County Fire-Police, Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Division of Fire Safety.
The fire was under control in about 30 minutes. There were no additional reported injuries.
The incident is under investigation by members of Wildwood Police Department, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
