UPDATE: June 27 Villas Blaze Not Suspicious

By Al Campbell

VILLAS – A single-family home at 11 W. Drumbed Road was heavily damaged in a June 27 one-alarm fire reported about 4:15 p.m. The owner was home at the time, and was treated at the scene, according to Villas Fire Chief Rich Harron.
Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and released from Cape Regional Medical Center. They were transported by Lower Township Rescue Squad.
When first units from Villas Fire Department arrived, the structure was engulfed in flames. Heavy smoke was visible from Bayshore Road.
At that time, following standard procedure, a call went to other Lower Township fire departments and to Green Creek Fire Department for its rapid intervention unit. Such a unit stands ready to support the interior crew in the event something would go wrong, Harron said.
Lower Township police and the Cape May County Fire Marshal investigated the origin of the blaze. Harron said the cause did not appear suspicious.
The American Red Cross assisted the homeowner with shelter and other immediate needs.
