SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City police dispatch received a 911 call for smoke and possible flames in the area of the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge at approximately 5:35 a.m. Nov. 24. Sea Isle City police responded to the vicinity and located a working structure fire on the 9100 block Pleasure Avenue.
According to a release, officers were able to clear the residences on both sides of the dwelling and ascertained they were unoccupied. Two other dwellings on the 9100 block Pleasure Avenue also quickly became engulfed in flames.
Sea Isle City Fire Department and Sea Isle City Ambulance Corps were immediately dispatched and responded to the scene. A request for mutual aid was placed. Strathmere, Avalon, Ocean View and Marmora fire departments all assisted the Sea Isle City Fire Department in bringing the fire under control. Assistance was also received from both the Avalon and Upper Township rescue squads.
Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, along with detectives from Sea Isle City police and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office continue their investigation into the cause of the fire.
There was extensive damage to three total structures, one single family and two duplex dwellings. A fireman on the scene received treatment for a minor injury.
