AVALON – Avalon Police Department received a call regarding a structure fire located at 6 Seagull Drive March 17 at 7:45 a.m.
According to a release, the call came from the occupant of the home. The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department responded and found the home involved in a working structure fire. The fire quickly spread to an adjacent property located next door at 47 Pelican Drive.
The occupant left her home with her infant without incident or injury. The home on Pelican Drive was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Multiple fire departments from Cape May County responded to the working structure fire which severely damaged both homes. It is anticipated that the homes will be a total loss. The fire was brought under control at 9 a.m. Fire crews remain on the scene in the early afternoon hours to extinguish any hot spots.
There were no injuries to the occupants, fire personnel, or to any first responders. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Responding agencies who assisted the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department included Stone Harbor, Rio Grande, Marmora, Green Creek, Goshen, Cape May Court House, Ocean View, and Seaville.
